Teen Homeschool Pottery Class – General Description (4-Project Session)

This teen homeschool pottery course introduces students to the essential hand-building techniques used in ceramics. Over the session, students will complete three structured projects—one using pinch, one using coil, and one using slab construction. After learning these foundational skills, students will spend the final week(s) creating a fourth, open-ended project of their choice, using any of the techniques they’ve practiced.

Throughout the course, students will also spend every other week glazing pieces completed in previous classes. This gives them ongoing experience with color selection, glaze application, and understanding how surface finishes transform in the kiln.

Students learn proper clay handling, scoring and slipping for secure attachment, forming and refining shapes, and experimenting with textures and surface decoration. They also gain a working understanding of the glazing process, kiln firing cycles, and how clay changes from start to finish. The class emphasizes creativity, craftsmanship, and personal expression in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Projects include:

  • Pinch Project: January

  • Coil Project: February

  • Slab Project: March (into April)

  • Final Free Project: April

This structure ensures students build confidence step by step, then have the freedom to explore their own artistic ideas in the final project. All materials are provided. Pieces will be glazed and fired so students can take home finished, lasting works of art.

PLEASE NOTE: Our class time is only 1 hour. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, we won’t be able to accommodate you in class. Once we get started, it’s important not to disrupt the flow or instruction for others. Thanks for understanding!

Refunds will not be issued after registration
